According to childwelfare.gov:
“In Federal fiscal year (FFY) 2018, the most recent
year for which national child maltreatment
statistics are available, about 4.3 million
reports were made to child protective services
concerning the safety and well-being of
approximately 7.8 million children. As a result of these reports, a nationally
estimated 678,000 (unique count) children were
found to be victims of child abuse or neglect.

These numbers are alarming, but anyone can help decrease these numbers by raising awareness on this matter or reporting if there is suspicion of child abuse or neglect.
